Both are great, but David has the theatrics that turned the band into one of the greats, at that time

DLR is a Showman first and foremost, Sammy has a much better voice and is a better song writer, but as far as frontman goes... DLR by an ego!

When I got into Van Halen, The Red Rocker was already fronting the band, so I'm a little bit biased toward him but both were great in their own right!

As much as I respect and love Sammy, but you just can't beat the original. To Sammy thanks mate for some great songs of inspiration and I do love your work, but Diamond Dave is called 'Diamond Dave' for a reason. He is the man, a real showman an entertainer a larikin and I love the squeel he puts in his voice. I like to call it 'voice harmonics' if you're a guitarist, you'll know what I mean. I love his quirky sense of humour, a funny guy. Go to www.vhnd.com and read what he said to the producer Ted Templeman when recording "Fair Warnings" "Sinners Swing' They put it in the song. Good onya Dave, love ya mate!

Dave lee Roth gets my vote as a frontman (much more of an entertainer). Sammy is a better more powerful vocalist but is also straight up rock.. Diamond Dave is so diverse (jazz/country/etc.) and makes everything fun/zany - check out his solo stuff with steve vai - just like paradise gets radio play but other tracks are fantastic with covers like 60's (tobacco road), jazz(that's life) and crazy tight originals like elephant gun, skyscraper, and slower stuff like 'damn good'. DLR is a talentless flog dancing around like a dickhead looking like a poof in lycra. Sammy has the voice and the talent. Check out Chickenfoot and all his other solo stuff.

Having said all that the fabulous Picasso brothers are frickin awesome and that was a Dave thing.
