Despite all the things being place: fans ready, sounding great and timing being about perfect, the Led Zeppelin reunion tour never happened.
Post O2 show, the stage was set for what promised to be an absolute monster world tour. With Jon Bonham’s son Jason Bonham ready to take his father's place at the drum seat, the band would not be a mere shadow of its former self, but rather a fully reanimated Led Zeppelin.
But it was not to be. Robert Plant was seemingly the one least keen to participate. his solo career was travelling just fine thank you very much- his bluegrass album with Alison Krauss had won a swag of Grammies in 2009 and speculation was rife that he did not want to damage Led Zeppelin's lofty place in rock history.
According to Jason Bonham, they were very close to announcing a Led Zeppelin tour: "It got real close," he says. "It got as close as you can possibly get."
Then there was a move to get another lead singer in, but founding members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones could not agree on how this would work, on arrangements for songs and a host of other issues that probably may have been calmed by Robert Plant's presence.
Sadly, we may never see Led Zeppelin live again, but Jason Bonham is keen to do his own tribute: "I thought, I can do some of the songs in slightly new ways, have some different instrumentation, things like that. I'm still putting it together, but I'm very excited."
