Gillard becomes Australia's first elected PM!
In what will go down as the most drawn post election period in Australia's history, Labor have fallen over the line to hold on to government for three more years.
Thanks to the support of independents Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor, th Gillard government will have majority of just one, so any by-election in the coming years will make all involved very nervous.
While the original three independents said they would vote as a block, maverick Queensland MP Bob Katter decided to announce prior to the official announcement that he would support the Liberal National Coalition (and not the Labor/Greens/Independent coalition).
Australia- it's been a hell of a ride and we'd like to leave you with this tweet:
17 days of negotiation. No violence. No deaths. No injuries. No civil war. A new parliament decided. Not a bad system really. #ausvotes
