Final Inductee list!

Friday 30th July

The number one group in the Classic Rock Hall of Fame is

Led Zeppelin

"Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound"

Led Zeppelin

Number 2 in the Hall of Fame: The Rolling Stones

"As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock"

Number 3 in the Hall of Fame: AC/DC

"Since forming in 1973, AC/DC's high voltage rock 'n' roll has flowed out into the world via consistently sold-out concert tours and global sales totaling more than 150 million albums and counting."

Thursday 29th July

Cold Chisel: "the classic Australian "pub rock band", playing a tough breed of rock and blues...but characterised by the story-telling skills of their main songwriter, Don Walker"

Pink Floyd: "...their music relentlessly tinkered with electronics and all manner of special effects to push pop formats to their outer limits"

U2: "From the beginning, U2 were marked out by their passion. "A band before we could play" was how Bono put it in early interviews."

Wednesday 28th July

INXS: "With a career spanning 25 extraordinary years, INXS are undoubtedly one of the world's great bands."

Bruce Springsteen: "One critic became so enamored that he quit reviewing to become Springsteen's manager."

David Bowie: "Bowie demonstrated remarkable skill for perceiving musical trends at his peak in the '70s"

Tuesday 27th July

John Mellencamp: "As his career progressed, his music became more distinctive, developing into a Stonesy blend of hard rock and folk-rock"

The Who: "...at the tail end of the 1960s they suddenly achieved a level of popularity rivaling the Rolling Stones, both as a live act and in album sales."

Queen: "...the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals"

Monday 26th July

Dire Straits: "Dire Straits emerged during the post-punk era of the late '70s"

The Doors: "From the start, the Doors' focus was the charismatic Morrison, who proved increasingly unstable over the group's brief career"

Eagles: "...with five number one singles, fourteen Top 40 hits, and four number one albums"

Friday 23rd July

Midnight Oil: "The stunning final set by Midnight Oil had the entire SCG singing along to every note. It was to be the band’s last performance."

The Beatles: "...they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century."

Bon Jovi: "Few bands embodied the era of pop-metal like Bon Jovi."

Thursday 22nd July

Billy Idol: "Billy Idol was one the first pop/rock artists to achieve massive success in the early '80s"

Jimmy Barnes: "As a solo artist Jimmy Barnes has scored seven number one records in Australia"

Phoenixwitch

AC/DC Ronald Belford Scott (aka-Bon) Without him, the boys wouldn't have got this far. They also helped the Angels break into the music scene. An inspiration to many Aussie bands!

I think ROY WOOD should be inducted,he formed and wrote hits for 3 groups The MOVE , E L O,and WIZZARD. He wrote more than 30 hits. Please consider it , he just won a MOJO award for Best Classic Songwriter.

I wanted to vote for Pixies, but it seems that this exercise is more about branding...showing the kinds of bands that the station plays. Same thing before re poll on your favourite INXS song here...they had a list...which didn't have some of my favourite INXS songs.

You get Hobson's choice here...Classic Rock provides the list and you like it or lump it.

Be good to have a real choice.

I agree with dfle333. If The Beatles aren't at least in the top 3, something has to be going worng.

You guys played the 'censored' version of the The Door's Break on Through during the mid-day showcase ... missing: "she get HIGH, she get HIGH". The remastered CD has the un-censored version. Elektra executives cut the drug reference to ensure The Door's first single got radio air-play. Jim Morrison ignored stipulation on their live Ed Sullivan TV appearance not to include the words

Of course, you still can't play the remastered version of The End from their first album...

Yay, David Bowie came in at no. 7, I wonder where Marc Bolan (T- Rex) will come?

Hymie

Where's Fleetwood Mac? Guns 'N' Roses? Split Enz?
I agree with about 90% of the entries, positional diffrencies though (I would of liked Cold Chisel in the top 5 instead of 6)
I dont understand entries like Deep Purple over the other names mentioned though.

Nothng I didn't already know, but it's always nice to read, even in 2010.

Queen should have been higher but at least they were in. Talking heads were in but no Fleetwood Mac? I would have had Skyhooks instead of Australian Crawl as they were hugely popular and maybe Nirvana instead of ZZtop due to their ground breaking style of music which lead the way for many bands to follow.
