Marking the anniversary of guitar legend, Jimi Hendrix will be an exhibition open to the public in London.

Hendrix in Britain to be displayed in the axeman's central London home. Hendrix lived in the top flat of the property in Mayfair, which is now one house, with his English girlfriend, Kathy Etchingham and paid £30 a week in rent. The house has a musical history with the composer George Handel living there for 36 years in the 1700s.

Handel House is now used as an office but the Handel House Museum staff will be relocating during the exhibition.

Sarah Bardwell, director of the museum, told BBC News: "We are excited to be celebrating the life of Jimi Hendrix.

"After moving to Brook Street in 1968, Hendrix learned of the Handel connection with the building and headed to One Stop Records in South Molton Street and HMV in Oxford Street to pick up whichever records of Handel music he could find.

"Clearly he was intrigued by the connection and we're pleased to be celebrating his own legacy today."

The exhibition will feature memorabillia such as handwritten lyrics and clothing. Hendrix in Britain will run at Handel House Museum from 25 August to 7 November.
