REILLY’S STORY

Reilly was five weeks old when he was flown from Brisbane to Sydney with a cystic hygroma that caused his neck and face to swell up. Reilly’s situation was truly desperate - he had a 30 percent chance of survival.

The only glimmer of hope was to be flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead – the only Hospital in the country with the expertise and equipment that could possibly save his life.

After identifying the size and extent of young Reilly’s cysts, Dr David Lord, Interventional Radiologist, used injection therapy to reduce them in size. “Initially this makes the swelling worse.”Although his parents knew this was a normal and necessary reaction, “We were in total disbelief, he looked liked a completely different child.”

After many trips back and forth between home in Brisbane and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Reilly is slowly making some great improvements and in 2009 he celebrated his first family Christmas at home.

Reilly’s journey and the journey of many kids at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is far from over – that’s why we need your help to make a difference this Christmas.

Across 2008-2009, DMG Radio has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
