Comedian Peter Helliar and former AFL star Scott Cummings will host a new sports show on Saturday mornings at 8am on Melbourne’s 91.5FM from 27 August.
The Cheap Seats is a fun, lighthearted show with a sports undertone. Over two hours Pete and Scott will chat about sport, share their observations on life and touch on topical issues. The guys will also give away some of the cheapest tickets to sporting and cultural events happening around Melbourne each week.
Peter Helliar is one of Australia’s most respected comedians. A regular on television, Helliar is renowned for his iconic Bryan “Strauchanie” Strauchan character and is a passionate Collingwood supporter.
Peter Helliar said, “I've always admired the way Scotty played AFL. He had the heart of Barassi in the body of a milk man.”
A regular on Melbourne’s 91.5FM, Scott Cummings was one of the dominant forwards in AFL through the 90s and early 2000s. He debuted for Essendon in 1994 and won the Coleman Medal in 1999 at West Coast Eagles. After finishing his career at Collingwood in 2002, he became a respected football analyst on radio and TV.
Scott Cummings said, “I’m looking forward to listening to Pete talk footy while I do all the jokes.”
Paul Jackson, dmg Radio Australia Group Program Director, said, “It’s great to have someone of the calibre of Pete Helliar and Scott Cummings on board for a sports show that will no doubt stand out from the usual offerings.”
The Cheap Seats is a partnership between Melbourne’s 91.5FM and Crocmedia.
Chris Giannopoulos, Executive Director Crocmedia said, "We are excited to be expanding our partnership with dmg Radio Australia. We have had great success working with Melbourne's 91.5FM on our Friday night 1st Choice Footy Shout program and look forward to Pete and Scotty sharing their irreverent thoughts on sport and family life.”
